FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
Answers to the questions applicants ask before their first practice session.
What is MedCoach?
MedCoach is an AI-powered medical school interview practice platform. It helps applicants practise realistic MMI and panel-style interviews, record their responses, and receive feedback on answer content, structure, voice, body language, professional presentation and delivery.
It also builds a private memory of your goals, story bank and recurring weaknesses, so each session can build on the last.
Who is MedCoach for?
MedCoach is designed for applicants preparing for Australian and New Zealand medical school interviews, including MMI, panel-style and structured interview formats.
It is built for students applying to schools such as USyd, Melbourne, Monash, UNSW, ANU, JMP, UQ, Adelaide, UWA, Auckland and many more.
Which medical schools does MedCoach support?
MedCoach supports preparation for Australian and New Zealand medical school interviews through realistic MMI and panel practice modes.
School-specific mock exams for selected universities are being developed to more closely reflect each school's interview timing, structure and question style. Current and planned support includes schools such as USyd, Melbourne, Monash, UNSW, ANU, JMP, UQ, Adelaide, UWA, Auckland and many more.
If your target school is not listed, you can still use the general MMI and panel modes to practise realistic interview questions, improve your structure and build stronger responses.
What kinds of practice does MedCoach support?
MedCoach supports several practice modes for different stages of interview preparation. MMI Drill lets you practise timed, scenario-based questions across areas such as ethics, communication, teamwork, empathy, professionalism, rural health and healthcare reasoning. Panel Drill helps you build stronger long-form answers for motivation, leadership, resilience, teamwork, personal insight and professional judgement questions.
You can also review Completed Questions, including your previous recordings, feedback reports and improvement notes. With Redo Previous Questions, you can reattempt questions you have already completed, apply your feedback and compare how your answers improve over time.
MedCoach is also developing school-specific mock exams, which will be released soon. These mocks are designed to more closely reflect each school's interview timing, structure and question style.
How accurate is the AI feedback?
MedCoach uses AI to assess your responses against tutor-written criteria based on commonly assessed medical interview domains, such as communication, professionalism, ethical reasoning, maturity, empathy and judgement.
Voice and content feedback are designed to help you identify patterns in your answers and delivery. BodyLang V2, MedCoach's own technology for tracking body language, runs live on your device and provides feedback on observable behaviours such as gaze, posture and gestures.
MedCoach is not a replacement for a human coach, but it gives you structured, consistent feedback between tutoring sessions.
Do I need a webcam?
Yes. MedCoach uses your webcam and microphone so it can review how you answer, how you sound and how you present during interview practice.
Video and audio are needed for body language analysis, voice analysis, professional presentation review and setup checks.
Is my session data private?
Your recordings, feedback and personal memories are tied to your account and used for your own practice and review.
MedCoach does not share your recordings with other applicants, universities or admissions offices. You can also edit or delete stored memories so you control what MedCoach remembers about you.
Does MedCoach remember previous sessions?
Yes. MedCoach can build a private memory from onboarding and your practice sessions.
This can include your goals, story bank, personal examples, feedback preferences and recurring weaknesses. Future sessions can then use this context to give more personalised feedback and answer guidance, rather than starting from zero each time.
What languages does MedCoach support?
MedCoach supports English, 中文 and 한국어.
The app interface, prompts and feedback reports can be shown in your preferred language. The same interview criteria and analysis are applied, then translated clearly so multilingual applicants can better understand and act on their feedback.
MedCoach's voice analysis is designed to tolerate accents and focuses on clarity, pace and intelligibility. Where accent, audio quality or environment may affect how clearly your answer comes across, MedCoach can provide practical suggestions to improve communication without penalising accent.
Does MedCoach work for non-Australian medical schools?
Yes. The general MMI and panel practice modes can still help applicants preparing for structured interviews outside Australia and New Zealand, including interviews in the UK, Canada, Singapore and other graduate-entry pathways.
However, MedCoach's school-specific preparation is currently focused on Australian and New Zealand medical school interviews.
What hardware do I need?
You need a Mac or Windows laptop with a webcam and microphone.
A recent laptop will work best for live body language tracking and smooth recording. Headphones are recommended for clearer audio, but they are not required.
How is MedCoach different from a human interview coach?
A human coach can be valuable for strategy, story selection and personalised guidance.
MedCoach gives you the repeated practice between coaching sessions: realistic interview drills, instant feedback, voice and body language analysis, progress tracking, and reports you can review before interview day.
Many applicants use both: a coach for strategy, and MedCoach as the daily practice engine that turns feedback into measurable improvement.
