The UQ provisional entry MMI for school leavers: ATAR 95, UCAT and eight stations

UQ's provisional entry pathway offers Year 12 students a medical place before they start an undergraduate degree. It runs through QTAC on an adjusted ATAR of 95 and the UCAT ANZ, and the interview is the same eight-station Zoom MMI UQ uses for graduate entry, held in mid to late November 2026 and worth half the final score.

UQ's provisional entry pathway gives a Year 12 student a medical place before they start an undergraduate degree. You apply through QTAC, sit the UCAT ANZ, sit an eight-station Multiple Mini Interview in mid to late November 2026, and if you are ranked highly enough you hold a provisional MD place while you complete a first degree at UQ.

The instrument is the same one UQ uses for graduate entry. Eight scored stations over Zoom, two minutes of silent reading and seven minutes to respond, no acting or role-play. What differs is everything around it: the admissions centre, the test, the month, and the numbers your rank is built from.

What UQ requires before it will interview you

UQ's Admission to Coursework Procedure is the authoritative document here, and it is specific. For a provisional offer, domestic and UQ-Onshore international applicants must complete, in the year of application, their "first attempt at Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) with an adjusted ATAR of 95 (or equivalent)", the UCAT ANZ, and the MMI.

The interview itself

UQ runs one MMI instrument across its pathways, so the room you walk into is the room a graduate applicant walks into two months earlier. UQ states that "MMIs are held via video conferencing", and its pre-interview briefing pack sets out the structure in detail.

How the offer is ranked

The MMI is half the decision, and it is also a hurdle. UQ's policy requires every applicant to obtain a minimum MMI score set by the Executive Dean before ranking, and does not publish what that score is.

Dates, and one thing to read carefully on UQ's page

For 2027 entry, UQ states that "Interviews will be scheduled for mid-late November 2026." Invitations reach applicants who applied through QTAC as correspondence in their QTAC account, and applicants who applied directly to UQ by email in mid to late October 2026. Offers are emailed in mid-December 2026.

Preparing for this specific format

Everything above is UQ's published information. This section is MedCoach's preparation advice, built around the details of this pathway.

Book the moment the invitation lands

UQ is unusually blunt about late bookings. It states that "We won't consider requests to accept late bookings for interviews unless there are exceptional circumstances." and that not knowing the booking procedure, missing the timelines, or not checking your junk mail folder are not circumstances beyond your control. Interview times are also subject to availability, so an early booking is how you get a slot that suits you.

Practise to two minutes and seven minutes

Seven minutes on a single scenario is much longer than most school-leaver applicants have ever spoken for. The common failure is running out of material at four minutes and repeating yourself for three. Use the two silent minutes to choose a structure and a first sentence, then rehearse full-length answers with an ending you can reach deliberately.

Remember it is November, not September

This interview sits after Year 12 exams, which means preparation competes with the final weeks of school and then falls into the flat period afterwards. Plan for that shape rather than assuming a quiet run-up. Your UCAT result decided whether you got here, but it counts for a quarter of the offer while the interview counts for half.

If you are applying as a graduate instead, the UQ graduate entry MMI guide covers the GEMSAS route and its September interviews. The national interview guide compares school-leaver formats across Australia, and the interview offer and date guide sets out the wider 2027-entry timeline.
